Update on the Clarington Novice Program for 2019/20
Submitted By Nicole Schoonderbeek on Monday, March 11, 2019
Due to the recent Hockey Canada mandate, there have been many questions about the Clarington novice program for the upcoming season. The Clarington Zone and Clarington Toros are jointly planning a developmental-focused novice program in the 2019/20 season. Together, we will choose 51 2011-born hockey players for this program.

The novice season will feature a developmental phase starting in September, followed by a regular season starting January 15, 2020. The program will follow the Hockey Canada curriculum, which focuses on skill development. All Canadian hockey players at every level, whether male or female, will play under the same framework.

It is important to note that players who are eight years of age or younger may not play up for a minor atom team, regardless of the player’s ability. Players may become an affiliated player (AP) for a minor atom team, but not until the regular season starts in January.

This is a work in progress for both the Clarington Zone and Clarington Toros associations. More information will be posted as it becomes available. There will be an information night for parents, for which the date and time to be posted shortly.
